1. President Bola Tinubu and the Peoples Democratic Party governors on Tuesday intervened to stop the impeachment moves against Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The President conferred with the embattled governor and his predecessor, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
2. The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged man who is operating a barbing salon in Ilorin, the state capital, over a girl who allegedly died during a sex romp on Monday. The police, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, said that they had commenced investigation into the cause of the death of the lady, who allegedly died after a sex romp with her boyfriend.
3. No fewer than 26 chieftains of the New Nigeria People’s Party, including three governorship candidates, and the immediate past National Chairman of the party, Prof Rufa’i Alkali, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress on Tuesday. The development came two days after the South East chapter of the NNPP disowned the presidential candidate and leader of the party, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, and settled for Boniface Aniebonam, who founded the party 22 years ago.
4. President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to screen and confirm 10 new Resident Electoral Commissioners for a term of five years. The President’s request was contained in a letter read by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, at plenary on Tuesday. The newly appointed RECs were appointed last week to serve in the Independent National Electoral Commission.
5. President Bola Tinubu has warned his son, Seyi, and other persons against interrupting meetings of the Federal Executive Council (FEC). The president said he observed Seyi and other unauthorised persons breezing in and out of the federal cabinet meeting convened every week to discuss the most crucial issues of national importance.
6. There was pandemonium on Tuesday in Port Harcourt as many youths who attempted to invade the Port Harcourt residence of the Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaehwule, sustained varying degrees of injuries, while several others were arrested by the police.
7. Three policemen were killed in an attack on a checkpoint in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. It was gathered that the policemen were conducting a stop-and-search operation along Funtua-Gudau Highway when the bandits struck.
8. The Nigeria Police Service Council has confirmed former Acting Inspector General of Police , Kayode Egbetokun, as the Substantive IGP and Head of the Nigeria Police Force. The Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam, announced this on Tuesday while briefing State House reporters after the council meeting presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
9. The Court of Appeal, Abuja, has vacated the order nullifying the candidacy of Chief Timipre Sylva, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State. In a ruling on Tuesday, Justice Binta Zubairu held that the lower court erred in having assumed jurisdiction in the matter on grounds that the plaintiff at the Federal High Court lacked the necessary locus standi to initiate the suit.
10. The Central Bank of Nigeria on Tuesday denied claims that it plans to redenominate the country’s currency, Naira, with effect from January 2023. Isa AbdulMumin, CBN’s Director of Corporate Communications, made this known on Tuesday in a statement.
