1. Ahead of the November 11 governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states, the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has ordered the distribution of 220 operational vehicles for election security management. The force also deployed anti-riot equipment, including water cannons, Armoured Personnel Carriers, helmets, bulletproof vests, and tear gas canisters.
2. The scarcity of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, also known as cooking gas, has hit Lagos and some other states in the country. The other affected states, according to findings, are: Katsina, Sokoto, Delta, Kaduna and Kano.
3. No fewer than 14,481,519 pills of tramadol and bottles of codeine syrup worth over N13bn in street value have been recovered by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in three major busts of drug cartels operating in Amuwo Odofin, Idumota and the SAHCO shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos State.
4. The Taraba State Commissioner for Special Duties and Social Development, Saviour Noku, has said at least 20 bodies have been recovered from the boat accident that occurred along the Mayo-Renewo-Karim Lamido Waterway in River Benue on October 28. Noku disclosed this at the weekend during a condolence visit to families of victims of the unfortunate incident in the Binneri community of the Karim Lamido Local Government Area of the state.
5. The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 39-year-old woman, Lilian Nwarache, who drank an insecticide on Friday in the Iwaya area of Lagos State. She was said to have been frustrated with having an illness. Nwarache was reported to have been suffering from a protracted illness and had been seeking a cure in a church in Iwaya, but became frustrated.
6. The governorship candidate of the Labour Party for the November 11 poll in Imo State, Attan Achonu, on Sunday accused the police in the state of attacking him and his convoy and preventing him from attending a church service in the Owerri North Local Government Area of the state. He made the allegations when speaking with journalists on Sunday.
7. Nearly 17 years after he got married, Kolawole Olanrewaju from Ikire in Osun State says he has found out that all the four children he thought he had with his wife, Toyin Olanrewaju, belong to another man. He said a DNA test conducted on the four children, aged 16, 12, 8 and 5 at DDC DNA Diagnostic Centre in Ibadan, Oyo State, returned negative, indicating he is not their biological father.
8. The Village Head of Dan Gulam in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State, Umar Ibrahim, has been accused of raping and impregnating one Hanatu Yahaya (not her real name), infecting her with HIV in the process. This was contained in a letter (dated October 16, 2023) to the Secretary of Dutse Emirate Council, Dutse Emir’s Palace, by Senior State Counsel in Jigawa State Ministry of Justice, Kabiru Abdullah Esq.
9. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Sunday accused Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinmma of sending thugs to attack the home of its president, Joe Ajaero, on Saturday. But the state government denied the allegation, describing it as “cheap, baseless, and vicious propaganda”.
10. The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has redeployed the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Barde, over alleged partisanship. Egbetokun said this yesterday night during a Channels Television programme .
