1. The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Friday visited Plateau State following attacks on 25 communities by gunmen on Christmas Eve, which left over 150 persons dead. The IG, who expressed shock over the killings, said he had ordered the commencement of a special operation to stem the tide of attacks and killings in the state.
2. The governors of South-West states, on Friday, said a committee would be set up to ensure a befitting burial for the late governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, who died in a German hospital on Wednesday after a protracted illness.
3. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has urged Igbo leaders to seek ways of interfacing with the Federal Government to address their legitimate grievances. The lawmaker, in his address at the launch of the Peace in the South East Project, a brainchild of the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, lamented that despite South-East’s economic strengths, agitations in the zone had caused it many losses.
4. An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has died as a result of the bombing of three power transmission towers by terrorists along Maiduguri-Damaturu, the Transmission Company of Nigeria announced on Friday. The General Manager of Public Affairs, TCN, Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja.
5. The Federal Road Safety Corps, Gombe State Sector Command, confirmed the death of six persons in a road accident that occurred on Friday morning at Jekadefari in the Gombe metropolis. The FRSC state Sector Commander, Mr Felix Theman confirmed the accident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Gombe on Friday.
6. The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested 23 suspects for alleged involvement in armed robbery, “one-chance” syndicates and rape in December. The Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba, stated this while parading the suspects in Abuja on Friday.
7. The Peoples Democratic Party has called on President Bola Tinubu to visit the scene of the Christmas Eve killing of Nigerians by gunmen in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi communities of Plateau State. The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, in a statement on Friday, queried the reason for the failure of intelligence before and during the coordinated killing.
8. Ondo State Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa has come under immense pressure from various vested groups in the state over his choice of Deputy. The groups and stakeholders are understood to be getting messages across to him on who will not only serve him, the state and the All Progressives Congress, APC, better as deputy but also help the party’s fortunes in next year’s governorship election.
9. Only an early intervention by security men in Plateau State on Thursday night helped avert a fresh massacre in Bokkos Local Government Area, according to reports on Friday. Bandits had already laid siege to Budel in the Tangur district of the local government, burning and destroying homes.
10. The convoy of a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Chris Uba was Thursday night in Uga, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State attacked by gunmen. Though he escaped in his bulletproof vehicle, two policemen in his convoy were gunned down by the hoodlums.
