1. Three mobile policemen attached to PMF 51, Oghara, have been reportedly abducted by suspected herdsmen in Ohoror community of the East-West Road in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. It was gathered that the kidnappers also carted away the service AK-47 rifles of the policemen who were marched into the bush.

2. The Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Josiah Majebi, on Saturday, swore in Ahmed Usman Ododo as the fifth executive governor of Kogi State. Ododo, who was sworn in at the Muhammadu Buhari Civic Centre, Lokoja, the Kogi State capital on Saturday, made his first appointments during his inaugural speech.

3. Efforts by the Ogun State Police Command to rescue the Lagos State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Philip Aivoji, and other targets of abduction by gunmen on Thursday turned tragic with the loss of one of the victims. The victim, identified as 37-year-old Bilikisu Kazeem, was hit by bullets in an exchange of gunfire between the security personnel and the gunmen.

4. A 45-year-old child trafficker, Alimot Haruna, has confessed selling off over 42 children into child labour in the last five years. The suspect was arrested on Wednesday by a team of policemen from Ijora Badia Police Station of the Lagos Police Command.

5. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has warned informants, kidnappers, bandits and criminals in the territory to repent or end up dying in the hands of security operatives. Wike gave the warning while rounding off his town hall meetings with relevant stakeholders in area councils across Abuja.

6. Improvised Explosive Device, IED, detonated in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State, resulting in the tragic death of six Quranic school pupils, popularly known as Almajirai in Hausa parlance. The incident took place on Saturday when a metal scavenger unknowingly collected and stored various metallic items in a building in close proximity to a Tsangaya school.

7. The remains of 12-year-old Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, student of Dowen College, Lagos State, who died under questionable circumstances, have been laid to rest at Ogbe-Ijo, Delta State. The funeral procession started on Saturday morning in Warri down to a jetty on the Warri-Sapele Road close to the NPA, where the casket was ferried in a boat to Ogbe-Ijoh.

8. The immediate past Chief of staff to the former governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, Mr. Anthony Agbazuere, popularly known as ACB Agbazuere, has been granted bail by the chairman of Abia State Judicial Panel of inquiry on the recovery of government property and funds, headed by Justice Florence Duruoha-Igwe (Rtd).

9. No fewer than 4,613,197 Permanent Voters’ Cards have been collected by voters for the February 3 rerun/by-elections. This was contained in a document posted by INEC on its X handle.

10. The Super Eagles, on Saturday, progressed to the quarter-finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations after a 2-0 win over Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Ivory Coast. With the win, Nigeria will now play Angola in the quarter-finals February 2, as they hope to claim a fourth continental title after previous wins in 1980, 1994 and 2013.
