William Troost-Ekong entered the history book as the highest scoring defender at the Africa Cup of Nations after registering a goal in Nigeria’s 2-1 defeat to Cote d’Ivoire at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan, on Sunday night.
Troost-Ekong gave the Super Eagles the lead in the 37th minute.
Jose Peseiro’s side however conceded twice in the second half to lose the game to Elephants.
The goal was the centre-back’s third of the competition.
The 30-year-old has now scored five goals at the AFCON finals.
Troost-Ekong was named Player of the Tournament.
