Governor Ododo Helps Bello Out Of Abuja Residence Amid EFCC, DSS siege
The incumbent governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, on Wednesday helped embattled former governor of the state, Yahaya Bello escape arrest by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Our correspondent who was at the ex-governor’s residence observed Ododo’s arrival with heavy security at about 2:30 pm on Wednesday.
About two hours later, at exactly 4:20 pm, Ododo’s entourage drove out with Yahaya Bello in the governor’s car.
About 10 minutes after the governor and former governor left, EFCC operatives laying siege to Bello’s home retreated from Benghazi street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja.
About 20 minutes after the EFCC operatives retreated, the policemen, operatives of the Department of State Security, Counter Terrorism Unit operatives and other security agents guarding Bello’s house also drove off.
Confirming the development to our correspondent, a source who preferred anonymity, said, “The former governor has left. He left with the governor, Ododo, who just drove out now with his security guards.”
Meanwhile, an EFCC source who also prefers anonymity noted that, “Bello has escaped with the Kogi State Governor, Ododo. Our operatives could not stop the governor.”
The PUNCH earlier reported that officers of the Nigeria Police Force and some armed men dressed in black with the inscription “Special Forces,” were preventing EFCC operatives from arresting Bello at his Abuja residence.
EFCC operatives had stormed Bello’s home on Benghazi street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, at about 9:30 pm on Wednesday.
However, our correspondent keenly observed how EFCC operatives were prevented by some policemen and other armed men guarding the ex-governor, from entering the house.
