Building Collapse: Plateau Government Begs For Blood Donation

The Plateau State Government has urgently requested blood donations to assist the victims of the recent tragic school building collapse in Jos.

The State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Musa Ashom, made the appeal through a statement released on Friday evening.

The collapse at Saints Academy during an examination session left numerous students injured, prompting an immediate need for medical supplies, particularly blood donations.

The state government’s appeal has been broadcast repeatedly on state-owned radio and television stations, urging every able-bodied individual to come forward and contribute to the lifesaving efforts.

“Given the scale of the tragedy and the number of injured, there is a significant need for blood to treat the victims,” said Commissioner Ashom in his statement.

The Plateau Specialists Hospital, where many of the injured are being treated, has become the focal point for the donation drive.

The statement reads, “As a result of the immense casualties from the collapse of a school building in the Busa Buji area of Jos North Local Government Area, the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Communication Plateau State, Ibrahim Musa Ashoms, is appealing to the sense of humanity of members of the public to donate blood at major and government hospitals in the city.

“This is to meet the overwhelming need of victims of the collapse and save lives of mainly schoolchildren. This emergency situation requires emergency aid from citizens”.

As of the time of filing this report, the rescue operations by NEMA, SEMA, FRSC, and Federal and state fire services were still ongoing at the site of the collapsed building.
