1. An Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, simply identified as Owolabi, has been arrested for allegedly defiling a 17-year-old girl in the Ojota area of Lagos. The officer was alleged to have had carnal knowledge of the girl in his office at Ojota Police Station.

2. The Katsina State Elders’ Forum has criticized the ‘ineptitude’ of the two ministers of defense, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar and Bello Matawalle over the lingering problem of banditry in the northwest. Addressing members of the press on behalf of the forum, the secretary, Alhaji Ali Muhammad, said the two ministers, who are both from the northwest region have done nothing to write home about in addressing the problem.

3. Africa’s richest man, Mr Aliko Dangote, has said the house he stays whenever he is in Nigeria’s capital city is not his personal property. During a media parley at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, on Sunday, Dangote said his passion for an industrialised Nigeria is the sole reason he doesn’t have houses outside Nigeria.

4. The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, on Sunday urged the police to reconsider the directive to vehicle owners to obtain the Central Motor Registry Information System (CMRIS) Certificate. This, it said, is given the various levies that citizens and businesses are already subjected to, and the present unfavourable economic conditions.

5. The Congress of University Academics (CONUA) has called on the Federal Government to pay outstanding salaries, promotion arrears, and other benefits owed its members. The congress made the call in a communiqué read after its Second National Executive Council meeting on Sunday in Benin.

6. Family members living in the boys’ quarters behind a storey building on No 49 Oyinlola Street, Off Adealu Bus Stop, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos State, escaped death by a whisker when the quarters caved in on Saturday. Following the collapse, people in the area alerted emergency responders, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, which stormed the premises to observe the situation.

7. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has won the July 13 council polls in the 24 local government areas in Delta State. The results of the election were announced on Sunday in Asaba at the headquarters of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC.

8. President Bola Tinubu on Sunday joined world leaders to condemn the attack on former United States President, Donald Trump. Tinubu stated this on his official X handle on Sunday, hours after the shooting at Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, which authorities said killed one person and left two other spectators critically injured.

9. Chima on Sunday emerged as the winner of Nigerian Idol season 9. The talented singer has been awarded a grand prize of 30 million naira, brand new SUV, music deal and music video, among others.

10. Spain struck late to win Euro 2024 with a 2-1 victory over England on Sunday in Berlin to capture the trophy for a record fourth time.
