England Coaching Job: Top Five Coaches That Can Replace Gareth Southgate

Even though the English FA has stated that the outcome of the Euro 2024 final would not lead to the sack of Gareth Southgate, there are still a series of speculations concerning his future.

Gareth Southgate and his players touched down in London earlier today, July 15, hours after losing a second successive European Championship final as English fans continue to wait for a major title since 1966.

While he had said he wouldn’t rush to decide on his future with England, media outlets in the country are insinuating that Southgate might decide to leave the national team.

If that happens, below are some available coaches who can replace him:

1. Graham Potter

The English tactician made his name at Brighton where he used little resources to build a very formidable squad. Most football pundits in England believe that he is the favourite to succeed Gareth Southgate even though he flopped at Chelsea two seasons ago.

2. Eddie Howe

Howe is another popular name for the job even though he is still contracted to Newcastle United. Fans of the Three Lions believe that his free-flowing style of football will best suit the national team. But it is left to be seen if he would agree to leave Newcastle United for a national team job.

3. Lee Carsley

Carsley is currently England’s under-21 head coach and he is reportedly very liked within the FA, hence, there is a huge chance that he could be promoted to handle the national team if Southgate decides to resign. Recall that Southgate became the Three Lions’ coach after working with the youth team.

4. Thomas Tuchel

Thomas Tuche has made a huge name for himself in British football due to his exploit at Chelsea where he won the Champions League for the club. Though he flopped last season, especially in the Bundesliga, he has a lot to offer the Three Lions if he decides to go into an international coaching career.

5. Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino is currently without a job and he is reportedly not too far away from London yet after he was surprisingly sacked by Chelsea at the end of last season. The English FA may consider him to replace Gareth Southgate if the English tactician decides to end his eight years reign as England’s coach.
