1. The leadership of Labour Party (LP) has condemned the removal of Senator Ali Ndume as the chief whip of the senate. At plenary on Wednesday, Senate President Godswill Akpabio read a letter from the leadership of ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) demanding the removal of Ndume as a principal officer in the 10th senate.

2. President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, OON, as Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. According to Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, the appointment takes effect from August 14, 2024.

3. There was a mild drama at the Katsina State Government House, on Wednesday, when members of the state House of Assembly who were to hold a meeting with Governor Dikko Radda staged a walkout to protest security details’ directives asking them to drop their mobile phones at the reception of the council chamber, venue of the meeting.

4. Gunmen have shot dead the Village Head of Kurmin-Kare, Ishaya Barnabas, and abducted three other residents in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State. A resident, Shehu Baba, who spoke to reporters on Wednesday, said the incident happened on Tuesday around 12 am.

5. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday transmitted a letter to the Senate asking the lawmakers to approve 2024 supplementary appropriation to the tune of N6.2 trillion. The letter was read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

6. Students of the University of Ibadan, on Wednesday, staged a protest to express their grievances following the schedule of a 10-hour electricity supply on campus and a hike in tuition by the university management.

7. Following last week’s Supreme Court judgment granting local government autonomy, the 401 chairmen and members of the caretaker committees running the 62 local governments and council development areas in Osun State tendered their resignations on Wednesday.

8. The landing cost of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, was N1,117/litre as of Tuesday, July 16, 2024, the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria announced. MEMAN disclosed this during a webinar with journalists on Wednesday. The association revealed that the landing cost of diesel was N1,157/litre, while that of aviation fuel was N1,127/litre.

9. With a signal from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Student Loan Scheme, one of the cardinal programmes of the administration, commenced on Wednesday. The N32 billion made available for the programme will be given as loans to successful applicants.

10. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday called for a political solution to the protracted crisis rocking Rivers State.
Governors on the platform of the major opposition party also renewed PDP’s bid for power shift in 2027, urging other leaders to work for its return to power at the centre.
