Tonto Dikeh faces backlash for discouraging nationwide hunger protest
Popular Nollywood Actress and politician Tonto Dikeh has stirred up a heated debate online by urging Nigerians to rethink their plans for a nationwide protest set for August 1-10, 2024.
In a message posted on her Instagram, Tonto Dikeh acknowledged the hardships Nigerians are enduring, including rising prices. However, she cautioned against nationwide protests, citing her experiences during the EndSARS protests, where violence erupted and lives were lost due to hijacking by nefarious elements.
Instead of protests, she suggested forming a representative group to negotiate directly with President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing the importance of peaceful and diplomatic solutions to tackle the country’s economic challenges.
Her statement has faced strong criticism on social media, with many Nigerians arguing that dialogue could divert attention from the pressing need for immediate action. Concerns have been raised about the integrity of such representatives and whether they would effectively address the issues affecting ordinary citizens.
