In a statement signed and issued to newsmen in Abeokuta, the state capital, on Tuesday, the chairman of the electoral commission in the state, Babatunde Osibodu, noted that the election would be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
Osibodu, according to the statement, said, “Thursday, August 8, 2024, is scheduled for the release of guidelines for the conduct of the elections and stakeholders meeting while campaigns by the political parties begin on Friday, August 9.
“The political parties are also scheduled to hold their party primaries between Monday, August 26 to Monday, September 9, 2024”.
It could be recalled that Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, previously characterized a statement circulating on social media as false.
The said statement claimed that the upcoming local government elections in the state are scheduled for October 26, 2024.
This speculation follows the expiration of the tenure of the elected local government officials.
OGSIEC, however, in a statement clarified that there has been no definitive date set for the execution of these elections.
It characterized the information being circulated as the work of individuals peddling fake news, urging the public to dismiss it.
The statement underscored that the commission will ensure the public is adequately informed regarding the scheduling of the elections for the third tier of government.
