Family of Late singer Onyeka Onwenu reveals her burial date
The family of the late singer, songwriter and actress Onyeka Onwenu has revealed her burial date.
Kemi Filani reported on Wednesday morning, July 31st, that the icon collapsed after performing at the 80th birthday party of Stella Okolie in Lagos. She was rushed to Reddington Hospital in Lagos, where she reportedly passed away.
According to sources close to the family who spoke to media outlets, she attended a friend’s birthday party when she took to the stage to perform. Immediately after her performance, she returned to her seat and suddenly slumped. The source, who spoke under anonymity, said emergency services were quickly called, and she was rushed to the hospital on Victoria Island, where she was later pronounced dead.
A week after her death, her family has broken silence on her burial date and arrangements. The family, while receiving a delegation from the Musical Society of Nigeria, MCSN, at the singer’s Ikoyi, Lagos residence, revealed that she would be laid to rest as soon as possible.
Though no particular date has been mentioned, Onwenu’s sons revealed their plans to bury their late mother before the end of this month. According to them, the burial arrangement will be announced in the coming days.
Following her demise, lots of celebrities have paid tribute to the icon. Taking the lead, singer Omawumi shared a candlelight photo with a heartbroken emoji.
Actress Regina Askia posted her picture on her Instagram page as she also expressed heartbreak over her demise.
Fuji singer Malaika prayed for her soul to rest in peace.
Actress Genevieve Nnaji had penned a tribute to her, revealing that her tears wouldn’t stop falling because writing the tribute meant she couldn’t live in delusion for a few more hours, and it was not a bad dream she would be waking up from.
FFK’s ex-wife, Precious Chikwendu, described the deceased as an elegant stallion as she revealed that all of her weeps because an Amazon of great character and dignity was gone. She thanked Onyeka for standing when it mattered the most in her life.
