Flooding: Lagos govt demolish houses built on the canal along Orchid Road (photos/video)

As part of efforts to stop flooding in the state, the Lagos state government on Thursday, August 16, demolished houses built on the canal along the System 157 – Orchid Road – Eti Osa drainage channels.

Sharing photos and videos from the demolition, the state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the demolition took place after several engagements with the stakeholders.

He wrote;

‘’After several months of stakeholders engagements with property owners built on Systems 156 and 157 drainage path, the agreements to implement the agreed redesigned plan which were not honored/neglected by the community, the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources commenced removal of illegal structures built on the canal along the System 157 – Orchid Road – Eti Osa drainage channels to deflood the area.”
