The All Progressives Congress (APC) has finally broken its silence on the speculation surrounding the removal of its National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.
The speculation, which gained momentum on social media and online publications, suggested that President Bola Tinubu was considering an ambassadorial position for Ganduje to leave the country over his corruption trial.
However, the party’s Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru, has described the move as “ridiculous” and “wishful thinking.”
Duru said a change of guard or arbitrary removal of party leadership could cause instability and upset the party’s structure.
He stated that the chairmanship of the party had been zoned to the North-West, and any attempt to alter this decision could lead to instability.
Duru said, “It will be one change of guard too many. There must be stability, even in the administration of party hierarchy. That is a wishful thinking.
“I don’t know if that is how a party should be run. You cannot run the party on instability or unstable structure. It won’t augur well for any party.
“The chairmanship of the party had been zoned to the North-West. That decision was taken at the level of the NEC with all the components and organs of the party in attendance.
“If anybody feels otherwise, as I always maintain because we are a law-abiding institution, he is free to go to court.”
The controversy surrounding Ganduje’s leadership has been ongoing, with some party stalwarts from the North-Central region calling for his resignation.
It can be recalled that a former APC chairmanship aspirant, Muhammad Etsu, recently filed a legal injunction to stop Ganduje from parading himself as national chairman, arguing that the seat should remain in the North-Central.
