Anti-Corruption Commission Detains Kwankwaso’s Nephew, Top Kano Govt Officials Over Alleged Fraud
The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has reportedly detained Garba Musa Kwankwaso, the nephew of New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, presidential candidate Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
CityNews Nigeria learnt that Garba, along with several high-ranking officials were detained over allegations of involvement in a drug supply fraud affecting 44 local government areas.
The commission initially arrested Alhaji Mohammed Kabawa, Permanent Secretary of the State’s Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in connection with the alleged multi-billion Naira scam.
Following this, other key figures were taken into custody, including Abdullahi Bashir, Chairman of the Kano State branch of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and Tauroni LGA.
The individuals are accused of conspiring to award a contract to Novomed Pharmaceuticals for drug supplies to 38 local government areas, allegedly bypassing public procurement laws.
Investigations suggest that each local government paid ₦9.1 million for the drugs, which were never delivered.
According to Daily Post, the commission’s Public Relations Officer, Kabiru I. Kabiru, confirmed the arrests, noting that the suspects are cooperating with the investigation.
The commission is actively working to uncover the full extent of the fraud and ensure that those involved are held accountable.
As of the time of reporting, the suspects remain in the commission’s custody.
