Despite failing to score a goal as Portugal was eliminated in the knock-out stage of the competition, Cristiano Ronaldo remained defiant in the face of calls for his retirement from international football.
In an interview with Rio Ferdinand Presents YouTube channel, the 39-year-old Ronaldo expressed his disregard for the criticism.
He said, “People always take the worst part, not always the good part. But I’m not going to finish my career because two rats criticize me.
“The world loves me, the fans love me. This is my motivation to carry on football. People love me.
“No one is going to take my shine away because two people from TV that nobody knows criticize me.”
Note that after his poor run at the Euro 2024, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored a goal in two successive games for Portugal in the 2024-2025 UEFA Nations League. The two goals took his total career tally to a world record of 901 in September.
Following this performance, the former Real Madrid striker said via Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel that he is looking forward to playing for more years.
“I give everything, I have given my body for 25 years to football … I know that for two or three more years I can produce something good, but I after that I don’t even want to think about that,” he said. “You think I am going to cry (when I retire) with everything I have in my life? Well, maybe a little bit!”
