Edo guber: Police withdraw orderlies from Oshiomhole, others
The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Frank Mba, has said orderlies and VIP protection will be deactivated 48 hours to the Edo State governorship election.
Mba said only Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy will be allowed to keep their police protection during the next week’s governorship election.
He spoke during the Edo Security Town Hall meeting on Sunday.
The deputy IGP also disclosed that the Edo State borders will receive special attention from the police ahead of the governorship election.
He said: ”We will clearly demobilise, and deactivate orderlies and VIP protection personnel 48 hours before the election.
“The governor and deputy governor will keep personal security, but these personnel are not allowed to accompany them to the electoral ground.”
The Edo State governorship election holds on Saturday next week with Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party, Monday Okpebholo of the Al Progressives Congress, and Olumide Akpata of Labour Party as the frontrunners.
On Saturday, Obaseki had declared that the governorship election would be a do-or-die-die affair.
This comes as the governor refused to sign the peace accord.
With the development, Edo North Senatorial District senator, Adams Oshiomhole, and others will be in the state without police protection during the election.
