Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has alleged that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been infiltrated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the leadership of the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun.
Melaye made the claim following the PDP’s defeat in the just-concluded Edo State governorship election.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the outspoken politician expressed his concerns over the direction of the PDP, warning that the party is headed for destruction under Damagun’s leadership.
“With the destroyer called Damagun on the wheels, PDP is in the departure lounge waiting for the boarding pass,” Melaye stated.
He further hinted that the defeat in Edo was only the beginning, suggesting that there are more APC loyalists within the PDP’s NWC than PDP members themselves.
In the Edo State election, PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo was defeated by the APC’s Monday Okpebholo. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ighodalo secured 247,274 votes, while Okpebholo won with 291,667 votes.
Melaye has been vocal about his discontent with Damagun’s leadership, previously accusing him of undermining the party’s legacy.
He stated that the PDP’s founding fathers, such as Alex Ekwueme, Solomon Lar, Tony Anenih, and others, would be turning in their graves over the current state of affairs within the party under Damagun’s watch.
