Pastor Adeboye apologises for saying those who don’t pay tithe won’t make heaven (video)
Pastor Enoch A. Adeboye has apologised for saying that those who don’t pay tithe won’t make heaven.
The General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God spoke to his members about tithing in a televised message that has gone viral, causing him to trend on X.
“I want to be apologising for making a mistake, for saying that if you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven. Sorry, that’s wrong,” he said, eliciting a loud murmur from members.
He continued amidst the noise from members: “That’s not in the bible. What the bible says is ‘be at peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God.’”
He added that “it’s possible to be right and wrong at the same time.”
He then explained how many times we have assumed something to be right in the past only to learn we are wrong as time goes by.
He explained: “For years, we thought that light travels in straight line. Now, is that correct?… But later on we discovered it’s not straight as a rod, light travels in waves.”
Despite admitting to being wrong about tithing being a prerequisite for making heaven, he proceeded to say that only beginners should give 10 percent while others should give more.
He said: “It is wrong to limit you to ten percent.”
“Ten percent should be for beginners,” he added, saying some people should be paying “20 percent, 30 percent.”
