The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has revealed its plan to demarket Governor Siminalayi Fubara ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election.
The strategy, aimed at weakening Fubara’s re-election bid, was disclosed by Tony Okocha, the embattled former Chairman of the Rivers State APC chapter while addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday.
Okocha attributed Fubara’s rise to power to the influence of Nyesom Wike, a former Governor of the state.
It should be noted that Okocha is an ally of Wike.
“Wike made it possible for Fubara to emerge as governor. Fubara was never a politician,” Okocha stated.
Okocha continued saying that Fubara is creating problems for himself, making it easier for the APC to demarket him and his party. “It is our business to demarket him and his party for us to win in 2027,” Okocha said.
The protracted feud between Wike and Fubara, both members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has defied interventions from President Bola Tinubu and other stakeholders. The national PDP leadership has struggled to resolve the dispute, leading to factional divisions within the party.
Okocha said further that Wike has a strong political structure in Rivers State that cannot be destroyed soon. “For the next 10 years, I do not see any politician destroying the political structure Wike has in Rivers State,” Okocha declared.
