Ten bodies have been recovered from the debris of a collapsed storey building at Jegede in the Olunloyo area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Some persons were also confirmed injured in the collapse that took place in the Oyo State capital on Thursday.
The General Manager of Oyo State Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, in a statement, noted that the Service got a distress call around 2am from residents of the area that a building had collapsed trapping many under the rubble.
“May I inform you that Oyo State Fire Services Agency received a distressed call at around 2 am this morning at Jegede, Olunloyo area, Ibadan of which 10 persons have been recovered from the debris of the collapsed building, while seven persons were rescued alive. Rescue operation is still going on.”
The police also confirmed the development in a statement. “Adequate security has currently been emplaced in the area to prevent hoodlums from taking over the incident scene and as well protect the lives and property of other residents within the Jurisdiction,” the police said
“Investigation is ongoing at the moment to unravel the possible circumstances that could have led to the incident.”
