Former Nigerian vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has congratulated Mr John Mahama, the President-elect of Ghana, on his recent victory.
Mahama won a historic comeback election victory on Sunday after voters appeared to punish the ruling New Patriotic Party over its management of an economic crisis.
NPP candidate Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat in the weekend presidential election after failing to shake off widespread frustration over the high costs of living.
Abubakar expressed his warmest congratulations, sharing his excitement about Mahama’s success.
He also mentioned attempting to catch up with Mahama before he entered the church for Sunday service.
“Your Excellency, Mr. President-elect John Mahama. My warmest congratulations on your victory.
“I was told you were on your way to church and thought I could catch up with you before you entered the church for the Sunday service.
“Once again, kindly accept my hearty congratulations on your landslide victory,” he wrote on X.
