Nigerians react as Ooni of Ife’s ex-wife,Naomi faces probe over death of over 30 children in Ibadan
Olori Naomi, the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has gotten herself into trouble with her recent charity work.
The mother of the crown prince, in collaboration with Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Ibadan, owned by Oriyomi Hazmat, had organized an event to feed the less privileged on Wednesday, December 18th. Unfortunately, the event led to the death of over 32 children which was caused by a stampede.
According to reports online, the event held at Islamic High School Basorun, which was organized for families, led to the loss of lives and injuries of many. An eyewitness said the stampede occurred when participants rushed to gain access to the event, which, unfortunately, led to a disaster. It was gathered that provision was made for 5,000 children but the number that turned up for the right was reportedly over 7,500.
The Governor, while sympathizing with the families of victims, noted that efforts had been made to stop further deaths and support victims.
The statement noted, “We have taken steps to ensure no further deaths are recorded at this venue by deploying security agents to restore order at the venue. We also deployed medical personnel and ambulances to the venue. The event has been stopped, and attendees have been escorted out of the venue. We are taking all realistic measures to ensure that the venue is secured.”
Mr Makinde further assured that everyone involved in the incident would be held accountable.
The governor said, “I want to reassure our people that anyone directly or remotely involved in this disaster will be held accountable. Please remain calm as the security agencies investigate this unfortunate incident.”

Recall that in December 2022, Olori Naomi surprised many when she announced the end of her 3-year marriage to the monarch in a statement on her Instagram page.
Speaking on her divorce, the mother of the crowned Prince, ruled out the possibility of returning to the palace, as she noted how the monarch now has six wives. She said that though there were sweet moments in her marriage, there were also bitter moments, and she was too innocent and soft when she got married. But, she has learned now that life isn’t like that.
