Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has said that despite the outrage across several quarters of the country, demolition of illegal structures in the FCT must continue.

The minister assured residents of the FCT that he would not be distracted with the outcry over the activities of his administration on sanitising Nigeria’s capital city.

He said as a leader, when going about your responsibilities, various individuals and groups would definitely complain over your style of leadership or actions.

He, however, termed  such complaints as distractions that cannot not deter him from doing what is right for the FCT and its residents.

“People must complain, but I can tell you such complaints cannot distract us. I am much focused, and since it is part of our job, we will continue to do what is necessary,” Wike said.

Insisting that the demolition process must go on, the minister added, “Forget about what people say about demolition, demolition must go ahead. We demolish shanties, we demolish illegal buildings. It doesn’t matter what anybody will say.

“At the end of the day, they will still come back to say, ‘you did a good job,” he said.

The minister further urged citizens not to bother but remain focused as his administration is determined to achieve desired results for Nigerians and not individuals.
