WAEC announces January retake exams for WASSCE candidates

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that students who fail any papers in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) can now retake them starting January 2025

This initiative, dubbed “WASSCE PC1,” aims to help candidates quickly improve their grades and qualify for the next admissions cycle, eliminating the usual year-long delay in their academic progress.

The Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, John Kapi, unveiled the program during an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show. He disclosed that the WASSCE PC1 exams will run from January 24 to February 15, 2025.

“Students who access their results now and realize they need to resit one or two papers have until January 8 to register online through our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés,” Kapi explained.

To assist students in their preparation, WAEC plans to release chief examiners’ reports sooner. These reports will provide detailed feedback on common areas of difficulty and tips to improve study and exam techniques.

Kapi emphasized that the initiative is open to all eligible students, including those whose results were canceled due to irregularities, provided they are not barred for malpractice. The exams will be conducted in regional capitals to accommodate the expected number of participants.

He urged prospective candidates to complete their registration before the January 8 deadline to take advantage of this opportunity. WAEC has advertised the program widely through banners, its website, and its results checker platform to ensure students and parents are informed.
