Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is an offshoot of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
CityNews reports that Lamido made the claim during the PDP 2026 National Convention in Abuja, stating that the PDP was founded on the vision of national unity and sacrifice.
According to him, all top figures in the APC, except President Bola Tinubu, emerged from the PDP, underscoring what he described as the ruling party’s deep roots in the opposition’s legacy.
Lamido appealed to aggrieved members and defectors to set aside individual egos for the sake of Nigeria’s democracy, adding that the PDP remains the only credible alternative for the country.
He said, “If you look at the APC, if you take away President Bola Tinubu, all of them are PDP.
“I urge those who ran away from their home to please come back. This is the party that honoured you, made you president, governor, and minister.
“We are willing to forgive and forget because of PDP. Let us embrace unity; it is not about any individual, it is about Nigerian ownership.”
Meanwhile, a chieftain of the PDP, Umar Sani, has said Lamido was not allowed to participate in the Ibadan National Convention that produced the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) over failure to go through the right processes of obtaining the form for the chairmanship position.
Recall that Lamido had gone to the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to challenge the outcome of the National Convention.
Lamido told the court that he was not allowed to express his fundamental rights to contest the party’s national chairmanship.
However, Sani, during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, said Lamido only showed interest in contesting the position on the day the forms were due to be submitted.
According to Sani, Lamido also went to Wadata House to buy the form rather than to the party’s annex office, the Legacy House.
