Chaos In Delta Communities Over Killings By Suspected Herdsmen
Farmers and indigenes of both neighbouring communities of Abraka, Ethiope East and Obiaruku in Ukwauni local government areas, Thursday barricaded the busy Abraka/Agbor/Asaba road protesting the incessant killings of their people by suspected herdsmen.
The protesters had earlier stormed the premises of the Delta State University, condemning the killings, maiming and raping of farmers in the area.
It could be recalled that last Sunday, a farmer and resident of Obiaruku, Engr. Mike Egba, residing in Obiaruku was killed on his way from the farm by suspected herdsmen alongside his son and close relative.
Egba was also a staff of Delta State University, Abraka, attached to the Physical Planning Unit.
The protesters in their hundreds with placards that read, “Okowa stop Fulani Herdsmen’, ‘Okowa stop the killings now’, ‘Stop killer herdsmen now, Okowa come to our aide,’ ‘Okowa we say no to Fulani killer herdsmen now’ and ‘Okowa your people are dying.
The farmers who were chanting war songs said, “Buhari must go’, ‘Okowa must act now, ‘We don’t want Fulani herdsmen again,’ ‘Fulani herdsmen must leave our bushes,’.
The Chairman of the Association of Farmers in Abraka/Obiaruku communities, Idigun Duke said the attack on farmers seems to have gone out of hand.
