FG Speaks On Taking Loan From Obi Cubana

The federal government has debunked a report that it appealed to celebrity businessman, Obi Iyiegbu popularly known as Obi Cubana to obtain a loan from him.

The government in a reaction through the Ministry of Information and Culture denied any such development.

CityNews Nigeria learnt that an online medium had published a story that the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed approached the businessman on behalf of the government to obtain a loan from him because ‘Nigeria is collapsing.’

But the Ministry in a disclaimer on Sunday released via its official Facebook page labelled the report as fake news.

The online news medium had published a report with the headline: “Obi Cubana has this kind of money and Nigeria is borrowing money from China. Cubana should borrow us money, Nigeria is collapsing- Lai Mohammed”.

But the Ministry responded by placing a ‘Fake News’ stamp on the report.

It will be recalled that Obi Cubana has been in the news recently due to the lavish spending for his mother’s funeral in Oba, a town in Idemili South local government area of Anambra State.

The town has been turned into a pilgrimage center and melting pot with the event attracting several celebrities, businessmen, musicians, and politicians.

Meanwhile, the convener of the Concerned Nigerian movement, Deji Adeyanju, has questioned the source of Obi Cubana’s wealth.

Obi Cubana caught the attention of many on Friday after he held an expensive burial ceremony for his late mother.

The activist in a post on his Twitter account called for caution, adding that richest men don’t throw money the way it was done at the burial ceremony at Oba, Anambra state.
