A body of youths in Ogun state, Ogun Youth Advocate For Social Development (OGYSD), has commiserated with the family of youths who were massacred by soldiers during last Tuesday’s protest at Lekki Tollgate, Lagos state.

OGYSD, in a statement by its President, Comrade Oluseyi Alamu in Abeokuta, the state capital on Thursday vehemently condemned the attack, describing it as inhuman and a mess on the country’s democracy.

Alamu noted that the day of the incident would be recorded in history as a day heroes of the nation were killed in cold blood.

He also described the killing as an act of sending the future of the nation to early grave, saying ” This event is so disheartening as many questions which needed answers troops to my heart.

The statement reads “Tuesday October 20, 2020, will forever be an unforgettable day in the history of Nigeria. A day which claims the lives of many patriotic heroes of democracy, youths who have taken it as their basic responsibilities to request for the betterment of their fatherland.

“Ogun Youth Advocate For Social Development (OGYSD) commend the Nigeria youths who has stood gallantly to defend and request for their rights. Freedom is not given to the oppressed by oppressors at freewill, until it is requested. Let’s agitate for our rights in solidarity, to secure our future and fatherland from been ruined.

“OGYSD, implore the government to see to the needs of the youths as bonafide citizens of the nation, and allow them for their rightful protests, as it stands as an avenue to speak their voices.

The statement continued “It is part of the responsibility of Nigeria Armed Forces and Nigeria Police Force to guide and protect citizens during protests, but reverse is the case from the Nigeria Armed Forces and Nigeria Police Force (NPF), in which many of the officers open direct fires to peaceful protesters.

Alamu quizzed “Why should the Nigeria Armed Forces be used for peaceful protesters? Why was the CCTV cameras disconnected? Why was electrical circuits to the scene interrupted at the moment which led to blackout?

The statement added “It shouldn’t be forgotten that Nigeria as it stands isn’t operating a military system of government, but a democracy system of government, which gives room for citizens demands to their basic rights.”
