The youngest aspirant in Abeokuta South Local Government, Abiodun Sijuade, has commended the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) for lowering the age requirement from 30 years to 25 years for candidates vying for the position of council chairman in the upcoming local government election.

In a statement released in Abeokuta, Abiodun Sijuade expressed his appreciation for the decision, stating that it will encourage more young people like himself to actively participate in the political process and seek leadership positions within their communities.

Sijuade highlighted the importance of giving young people a platform to contribute to governance and decision-making, stating that their perspectives and ideas are crucial for the development and progress of their communities.

“I commend OGSIEC for recognizing the potential and capabilities of young people in leadership positions. Lowering the age requirement to 25 years will allow individuals in my age group to actively participate in the upcoming election and bring fresh ideas and perspectives to the table,” Sijuade said.

He also encouraged other young people in Abeokuta South Local Government and beyond to consider running for office, regardless of their political affiliations, as the opportunity to serve their communities and make a difference is now more accessible.

Abiodun Sijuade thanked OGSIEC for their progressive and inclusive approach to the electoral process, and he looks forward to a competitive and engaging local government election that will reflect the diversity and vibrancy of the community.
