The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has called on Mrs. Unoma Akpabio, wife of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, to refrain from intervening in the ongoing allegations of sexual harassment and intimidation leveled against her husband.
The dispute between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio ignited after Akpoti-Uduaghan challenged the seating arrangement in the Senate, citing Order 10 of the Senate Standing Rules. Tensions soared when, during an appearance on Arise News, she accused the Senate President of blocking her motions, tarnishing her reputation, and intimidating her after she allegedly rejected his sexual advances.
In response, Mrs. Akpabio dismissed the allegations in a press conference, emphasizing the long-standing cordial relationship between both families and labeling the claims as unfounded.
However, in a letter dated March 1, 2025, addressed to Mrs. Akpabio through her lawyer, Victor Giwa, Akpoti-Uduaghan advised her to stay out of the matter. The letter, titled “Stay Away from Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Sexual Harassment Allegation Against Sen. President Godswill Akpabio; To Safeguard Your Sanity and That of Your Family,” emphasized that the allegations were personal to the Senate President and that he should be allowed to defend himself.
Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed that, while she had endured harassment from Akpabio, she had been forced to speak out and reveal the mistreatment she faced in the Senate. She stated, “The allegations are personal to the Senate President, and we believe he has the capacity to defend himself.”
She further asserted that she has solid evidence to support her claims and urged Mrs. Akpabio to leave the defense to her husband, warning her to avoid getting entangled in the dispute for the sake of her own well-being and family stability.
“Our client remains committed to fighting for Nigerian women and upholding family values,” the letter concluded, reiterating Akpoti-Uduaghan’s resolve in the matter.
