Bola Tinubu has directed the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA) to distribute rice across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to support citizens observing the Ramadan and Lenten fasting periods.
The directive was revealed by the Governor of Imo State and Director-General of the group, Hope Uzodimma, in a statement issued over the weekend.
Uzodimma explained that the initiative is designed to promote unity and show compassion at a time of deep spiritual reflection for both Muslims and Christians.
According to him, the distribution will be handled through the nationwide grassroots network of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to ensure that households across the country receive support during the fasting season.
He added that the programme reflects the administration’s ongoing efforts to assist citizens during important religious and cultural periods.
Uzodimma also noted that a similar intervention was carried out during the last Christmas celebrations, when rice was distributed to support Nigerians marking the festive season.
Both Christian and Muslim communities are expected to benefit from the current nationwide initiative, which he said underscores the government’s commitment to inclusiveness, solidarity and shared national values.
“This initiative reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to unity and compassion. Ramadan and Lent are seasons that remind us of sacrifice, charity and care for one another,” he said.
“Through this distribution, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors will ensure that families across Nigeria feel the spirit of togetherness during this sacred period.”
The rice distribution exercise will be implemented through the organisation’s structures at the state, local government and ward levels to ensure wide coverage and transparency across the country.
