‘We Will Remain And Win In 2027 — Gov Makinde Rules Out Leaving PDP

Governor Seyi Makinde has dismissed speculations of a possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reaffirming his loyalty to the party.

He made this known on Monday while addressing PDP stakeholders from all 33 Local Government Areas at the Local Government House Secretariat in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Makinde’s clarification follows his recent meeting in Kano with Peter Obi, Seriake Dickson, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, which had sparked rumours of a potential political realignment.

The governor, however, assured party members of the PDP’s resilience, insisting that the party would not collapse despite ongoing challenges and would actively participate in the 2027 general elections.

“Those saying PDP will die are mistaken. PDP will be on the ballot in 2027, and we will present candidates for all elective positions. We will remain in the party and win,” he said.

He stressed the importance of unity within the party, urging stakeholders to set aside differences and embrace consensus-building strategies ahead of the polls.

Makinde directed party leaders across the state’s zones to convene meetings aimed at resolving internal disputes and reaching acceptable agreements.

“They want to take Oyo State at all costs, but it is our responsibility to make necessary compromises to accommodate one another,” he added.

The governor also announced automatic tickets for members of the National Assembly and first-term members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, while noting that returning lawmakers would be considered based on existing agreements, including zoning arrangements.

According to him, preparations are underway for a tough electoral contest, but he expressed confidence in the party’s chances.

“This is not just about 2027; it is about the future of our democracy and generations to come. Success requires struggle, and we are ready for the challenge. We will win,” he said.

Makinde further reaffirmed that he and his political structure remain firmly rooted in the PDP, declaring it as the platform for all party members ahead of the 2027 elections.

At the high-level stakeholders’ meeting held at the State Secretariat, he assured aspirants that all candidates would contest under the PDP, putting to rest any speculation about defections or alternative platforms.

He added that the party would adopt a consensus-based approach in selecting candidates, emphasising unity and cohesion as key to maintaining its dominance in Oyo State.
