Gbajabiamila: Group calls for arrest, probe of Prince Adeyemi over false claims

A civil society group has demanded the immediate arrest and investigation of Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi over allegations it described as impersonation, misinformation, and blackmail against the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

The Centre for Transparency and Accountability in Governance (CTAG) made the call in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Comrade Sunday Itodo, on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

CTAG condemned what it termed Adeyemi’s “reckless and scandalous allegations” against Gbajabiamila, urging the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and anti-corruption agencies to take swift action.

The group noted that the Office of the Chief of Staff has categorically denied the existence of any agency called the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council under the Presidency.

“Prince Adeyemi has publicly claimed to be the head of an agency which the Presidency has unequivocally denied knowledge of. This is a grave matter touching on national security, public trust and the integrity of government institutions,” the statement said.

“The DSS and the Police must immediately invite and investigate him.”

CTAG challenged Adeyemi to immediately publish his purported appointment letter as head of the alleged agency and disclose the authority under which it was made.

It also demanded he release the list of no fewer than 300 staff members he claimed were approved for the agency, including evidence of their recruitment, appointments, payroll, and source of funding.

The group further questioned Adeyemi’s claim that the agency operates an account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), asking for details of authorisation, signatories, and the legal basis for such an account. It called on the CBN to clarify the matter publicly.

On Adeyemi’s allegation that he paid N600 million — including N400 million upfront through a third party linked to the Chief of Staff — to secure the position, CTAG described the claim as extremely serious.

“He must immediately provide documentary evidence of the transactions… and incontrovertible evidence supporting his allegation that Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila demanded a percentage of the purported N24 billion take-off grant,” the statement added.

While stressing that public officials must be held accountable when evidence exists, CTAG warned against the growing trend of weaponising false allegations for blackmail, extortion, or character assassination.

“The era of reckless accusations without consequences must come to an end,” Itodo said.

The group urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into Adeyemi’s claims and prosecute anyone found culpable of impersonation, fraud, false information, or criminal defamation.
