2027: Drama As Nafiu Bala-Led ADC Faction Uploads Presidential Candidate to INEC Portal

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by National Chairman Nafiu Bala Gombe has announced that it has uploaded the details of its presidential, vice-presidential and National Assembly candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Politics Nigeria understands that Nafiu disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday. However, he did not reveal the identities of the candidates whose credentials were submitted through the commission’s portal.

The development comes amid growing disagreements within the opposition party over its leadership structure and preparations for the next general election.

According to Nafiu, the submission of candidates’ details reflects the commitment of his faction to protecting the interests of the party’s founding members and strengthening its participation in the 2027 electoral process.

He said, “The African Democratic Congress, ADC, under my leadership, has successfully completed the upload of our Presidential, Vice-Presidential, and National Assembly candidates on the INEC portal for the 2027 General Elections.

“This achievement demonstrates our Party’s firm commitment to safeguarding the interests of our founding and legacy members in the face of anti-democratic tendencies.

“As a Party, the ADC remains resolute in its mission to field credible, competent, and people-centered candidates who will provide purposeful leadership, promote good governance, and bring hope to the Nigerian people.”

Although the faction confirmed the upload of candidates’ credentials, it withheld further information on the individuals selected for the various positions.

The announcement is expected to deepen the contest for control of the party, as different groups within the ADC continue to lay claim to its leadership and political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.

The latest move also follows a similar declaration by another ADC faction led by former Senate President David Mark. That group recently stated that the names of its presidential candidate and other contestants for the 2027 elections had already been uploaded to the INEC portal.

The parallel claims by both factions have further highlighted the internal divisions within the party as preparations for the next electoral cycle gather momentum.

Meanwhile, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has called on politicians seeking genuine public service to join the ADC, insisting that courage and conviction are required to abandon politics driven by personal interests.

Tambuwal made the remark while receiving the immediate past Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area, Isa Salihu Kalenjeni, into the ADC after his resignation from office and exit from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former governor said politicians who are committed to serving the people and acting in good conscience should not hesitate to align with the ADC.

He said, “Anyone who believes that what he is doing is for the people and for the sake of God, not for personal gain, should have the courage to leave any political party and join the ADC.”
