The African Democratic Congress (ADC) wishes to warn, in the strongest possible terms, against any attempt to use the judiciary as an instrument to undermine democracy and plunge Nigeria into a major political crisis. We are deeply alarmed by the judgment reportedly delivered by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, in a case filed by the so-called National Forum of Former Legislators seeking the de-registration of the ADC and four other political parties. This judgment stands in direct conflict with constitutional principles and all known judicial processes and procedures. The facts are straightforward. The plaintiffs had argued…
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ademola Adeleke may have suffered a major political setback ahead of the 2027 general election and the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, respectively, following a Federal High Court judgement ordering the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Accord Party, alongside three other political parties. Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja delivered the ruling on Monday in a suit filed by the National Forum of Former Legislators, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2637/2026, directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the five parties for failing to meet constitutional…
The Federal Government may begin paying salaries, pensions and social welfare benefits through the eNaira under a new Central Bank of Nigeria roadmap aimed at transforming the country’s digital currency into a major payment channel. The proposal is contained in the Nigeria Payments System Vision 2028, released by the CBN, which outlines plans to expand the use of the eNaira and move it from a pilot project to a core payment rail for government and private-sector transactions. The eNaira, launched in October 2021 as Africa’s first central bank digital currency, was introduced to deepen financial inclusion, reduce the cost of…
Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has shared new details on the tension that grew between the former Eastern Region governor, Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and the military head of state at the time, Yakubu Gowon, during the crisis that later led to the Nigerian Civil War. CityNews reports that he made the account in his autobiography titled Call of Duty, which was launched in Abuja during his 84th birthday celebrations. In the book, Abubakar traced how the chain of events after the 1966 coup and the killing of Major General Aguiyi-Ironsi led to deep division within the military and across…
The Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole has said the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi does not have what it takes to win the 2027 election. In an interview with Mic On Podcast on Sunday, the lawmaker claimed that Peter Obi lacks reputation, citing his alleged inability to manage and resolve party crisis. Oshiomhole said the former governor of Anambra State cannot be taken by his own words, pointing out how he (Obi) failed to keep his promise of staying put in the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA. “Peter Obi has no reputation, you cannot…
Contrary to claims by former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, that he made the late Muhammadu Buhari president, the lawmaker representing Edo North Senatorial District, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has said Amaechi did not even vote for Buhari in 2015. Oshiomhole, who spoke on Sunday in an interview on The Mic On Podcast, said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain could not vote because he was “overwhelmed” by the former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike. According to the lawmaker, Amaechi, who served as the Director-General of Buhari’s campaign, instructed his supporters in Rivers State to boycott the election. He said, “Amaechi…
The price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, could fall to around N900 per litre if the proposed peace agreement between the United States and Iran is successfully implemented and global crude oil prices continue to decline. The expectation follows fresh developments in the Middle East, where efforts to end months of hostilities have pushed international oil prices downward. Crude oil prices, which climbed sharply during the conflict, have dropped significantly in recent days as investors react positively to reports of a ceasefire framework and plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest…
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declined to confirm reports that its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has chosen former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as his running mate. The reports, published by several media organisations in recent days, claimed that Atiku had settled for Amaechi, a former Rivers State governor, as his vice-presidential nominee. CityNews understands that Amaechi came second behind Atiku in the recently concluded ADC presidential primary. When contacted on Saturday, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said he could not confirm the reports. “I don’t have that confirmation. I cannot confirm for you at this time,” Abdullahi said during a telephone interview with Premium…

A lawyer, Frank TieTie, has urged the presidency and the Military to learn from the administration of Goodluck Jonathan, who, according to him, showed helplessness when a similar national security situation happened under his watch or Olusegun Obasanjo, who confronted any form of insecurity squarely. CityNews reports that TieTie gave the warning during an appearance on Arise News. TieTie said he perceives some signs of weakness from the presidency. He said, “There are things that can be done which are not rocket science, yet little is being done about them while leaders continue to make reassuring statements. “I would urge the President…
