BREAKING: ASUU Calls Off Strike In The Interest Of Students And Parents
CityNews Nigeria reports that he Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) on Wednesday called off its strike, ending a protracted industrial action that started since March 2020.
ASUU National President, Biodun Ogunyemi made the announcement during a briefing of the union in Abuja.
He said ASUU called off the strike in the interest of Nigerian students and parents.
Whilst thanking students and their parents for their understanding throughout the nine-month period Professor Ogunyemi was quick to say that ASUU ‘is not tired of strike’ and that the association is ready to proceed on another strike if the federal government reneges on its promises in the agreement reached.
He also noted that the reopening of Nigerian Universities, considering the COVID-19 pandemic and the partial lockdown, lies with the Federal Government and the Nigerian Senate.
