BREAKING: Herdsmen Crisis: Ogun State Inaugurates Amotekun

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has in a bid to tackle issues of herdsmen and other criminal activities in the state inaugurated the state chapter of Operation Amotekun.

CityNews Nigeria learnt that Governor Abiodun inaugurated the state chapter of the Western Nigeria Security Network on Thursday, April 1, 2021. Reports reaching this online platform confirmed that the governor also commissioned scores of patrol vans and motorcycles to aid the operations of the Amotekun Corps.

A year ago, all the six states in the South West region of Nigeria due to the overwhelming insecurity in the region inaugurated the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun, to deal with peculiar security threats in the region.

Recall that Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti State respectively kick-started the local security outfit with the constitutional backing of all the six state assemblies in the region.

Recently, Ogun State particularly witnessed disturbing herdsmen attacks which led to the displacement of many residents of Yewaland far away to the Benin Republic. Agrarian villages in the state have also suffered unnumbered killings by Fulani herders who have also been accused of rape, kidnapping, amongst other heinous crimes.

The security challenges confronting the state have seemed overwhelming for the men of the Nigeria Police Force, thus, necessitating the support of a law-backed security outfit like the Amotekun Corps.
