Breaking: Trump’s Wife To Run For Senate
CityNews Nigeria reports that Lara Trump, wife of Donald Trump’s second son Eric, confirmed late Wednesday that she is considering running for the Senate in North Carolina.
The former president’s daughter-in-law appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show where she shared her critiques of President Joe Biden’s administration and revealed her future political plans.
“Quick question. Exit question. Still considering a run for Senate, in North Carolina, your home state?” Hannity asked Lara toward the end of the interview.
“Yes, I am still considering it, absolutely,” Lara answered.
Lara first hinted at plans to run for the North Carolina Senate in 2022 in an interview with Hannity on March 3.
“Yeah, well I absolutely am,” she said during the March 3 interview. “North Carolina is not just my home state. It’s my home. It’s the state that made me the woman I am today. Nothing would be a bigger honor for me than to represent the people of my home.”
Lara married Trump’s son Eric in 2014 after a six-year relationship. She was born in Wilmington, N.C., in 1982 and graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications.
Trump’s daughter-in-law would face a number of candidates for the North Carolina seat currently being held by Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C. He is expected to retire in 2022.
She could face Rep. Mark Walker for the Republican nomination. Opponents on the Democratic side could include former North Carolina Supreme Court chief justice Cheri Beasley, former state senator Erica Smith, state Sen. Jeff Jackson and virologist Richard Watkins.
North Carolina is one of the three top targets for Democrats who are hoping to protect their 50-50 control in the U.S. Senate. Other states include Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.
