COVID-19 vaccines: Trump alleges deliberate delay

United States President Donald Trump has alleged a deliberate delay in production of COVID-19 vaccines.

On Saturday, the American leader told authorities to fastrack development and approval.

Trump said the “deep state, or whoever, over at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is making it very difficult for drug companies to get people in order to test the vaccines and therapeutics.”

“Obviously, they are hoping to delay the answer until after Nov. 3. Must focus on speed, and saving lives!” he tweeted.

Trump’s tweet was directed at Stephen Hahn, FDA Commissioner.

However, Hahn insists he will abide by FDA’s stringent scientific processes.

The U.S. presidential election will be held on November 3.

While Trump wants a vaccine before the poll, experts and critics warn that rushed testing and approval process could undermine safety of vaccine.

America has recorded 5.8million COVID-19 cases and 177,000 deaths.
