Farouk Yahaya Takes Over As New Chief Of Army Staff

Major General Farouk Yahaya on Friday assumed duties at Nigeria’s new Chief of Army Staff.

 

Yahaya takes over as the 22nd Chief of Army Staff following his appointment on Thursday by President Muhammadu Buhari to replace the late Lt. Gen Ibrahim Attahiru who died in a plane crash in Kaduna State last week Friday.

Prior to his appointment Major General Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counterterrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit in the North East code named Operation HADIN KAI.

Yahaya was born in Sifawa, Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto state. He is married and blessed with children. He belongs to the Regular Course 37.

Earlier, the new Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouk Yahaya had paid a final respect to his predecessor, the late Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru.

The Nigerian Army revealed this on its official Twitter account on Friday morning, sharing a photo of Farouk saluting a portrait of Attahiru after signing the condolence register at the HQ Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI, Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Borno State.

“The new Chief of Army Staff, Maj Gen Farouk Yahaya pays his last respect to his predecessor, late Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru after signing the condolence register at HQ Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI, Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Borno State,” the Nigerian Army tweeted.
