Google takes down Indian app deleting Chinese ones from phones
Google has taken down an Indian mobile application from its app store.
Google is owned by Alphabet Inc., an American conglomerate headquartered in California.
The controversial app was allowing users to delete Chinese apps from their phones.
“Remove China Apps” was top trending free app on Google’s app store in India with more than five million downloads since late May.
On deletion, a message popped up saying “You are awesome, no China app found’’.
It became popular after calls for a boycott of Chinese apps in India over the Himalayan border dispute.
Reuters quoted a Google spokesman as saying that the app was removed due to violation of policies.
“Remove China Apps” scanned users’ phones for apps such as ByteDance’s TikTok and Alibaba’s UC Browser.
OneTouch AppLabs developed the app.
A check on its website by users on Wednesday found its “Thank you” message to users.
It confirmed that Google has removed the app from its play store.
“We are happy to announce that our first Initiative in direction of self reliant India Remove China Apps has crossed 1 Million downloads within 10 days of launch.
“We have received 80,000 + appreciations in the last 2 days…Due to the high volume of feedbacks, we were not able to respond to all of feedbacks individually.
“We want to say Thank You to all of you. Thank You India for your love, appreciation and feedback. “YouAreAwesome”, the team wrote.
