Maina To File No-Case Submission As EFCC Closes Case
Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of the Pension Reformed Task Team (PRTT), on Wednesday said the case instituted against by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) lacks merit.
Speaking after the EFCC, through its counsel, Farouk Abdullah, tender all its evidence and called all its witnesses which indicates closure of its case, Maina told the federal high court, Abuja, that he had no case to answer.
Citynews Nigeria reports that the embattled former pension boss, through his lawyer, Anayo Adibe, told Abang Okon, the presiding judge that he would file a no-case submission.
Adile disclosed the defendant next line of action shortly after he cross examined the ninth and last prosecution witness (PW9), Rouqquaya Ibrahim, an EFCC investigator.
Subsequently, Abang adjourned the case till Friday when Maina’s lawyer would verbally address the court and the prosecution counsel would respond to the no-case submission.
Maina was arraigned before Abang on October 25, 2019, by the EFCC alongside his firm, Common Input Property and Investment Ltd.
Although he is facing 12-counts bordering on money laundering up to the tune of N2 billion, he had pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
