Oyetola, Cleric Urge Muslims To Receive COVID-19 Vaccine
Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola and a cleric, Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani Bello have debunked the claim that receiving COVID-19 vaccine is against Islam’s tenets, noting that the vaccine aims to save lives and stem the spread of the virus.
Speaking in Osogbo, yesterday, at the 26th Annual Ramadan Lecture of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, the duo admonished Muslims to support Federal Government’s COVID-19 vaccination programme and not play politics with it or allow religious sentiments.
Bello, the guest lecturer, who spoke on ‘Islamic Perspectives on COVID-19 Pandemic and Vaccination’, noted that there was nothing un-Islamic about the vaccination.
Represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Prince Abdullah Adeyanju Binuyo, the governor stressed the need for religious leaders and informed followers to correct whatever misconceptions surrounding vaccination against COVID-19 and complement government’s efforts at combating the virus.
Oyetola disclosed that his administration is doing everything possible to halt the spread of the virus through consistent advocacy on the need for citizens not to only present themselves for vaccination, but also continue to follow all the safety protocols, even after vaccination.
