The Adamawa State Command of the Nigeria Police has cracked some criminal networks involved in kidnapping and armed robbery in the state.

The police in the process nabbed 52 individuals suspected to be members of such networks.

The command which said this on Tuesday explained that the arrest took place within the last three months, making it possible to recover items which the suspects used for or gained from their activities, including seven AK 47 rifles, four locally made guns, three G3 rifles, a motorcycle, two phones and other.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Aliyu, told newsmen while parading the suspects that large quantities of hard drugs, weed believed to be Indian hemp and rubber solution were also recovered.

The CP said operatives of the state police command, while on confidence-building patrol and intelligence-led policing between March this year and now, nabbed the 52 suspects who range between the ages of 17 and 40 years.

Among the 52 suspects is a 22-year-old Abubakar Usman, said to be one of four young men who gang-raped a 25-year-old woman.

The Commissioner of Police said, “On the 16th of May 2021, operatives of the command attached to CID apprehended Abubkar Usman for inviting his three friends: Safiyana aka Pata, Ahmadu Ubandu and Didol who are now at large and jointly raped a 25-year-old woman (name withheld) who they deceitfully invited to Ebis Hotel in Demsawo, Yola.”

According to the CP, two people came forward to tell the police that they no longer wished to operate as kidnapers.

The two include Ibrahim Baba, a resident of the Song local government area who denounced kidnapping and handed over his two G3 rifles and five rounds of live ammunition.

The CP named the second ‘repentant kidnapper’ as Mohamed Ruwa who the CP said had surrendered to the police by denouncing his kidnapping activities.

The police commissioner thanked the people of Adamawa State for cooperating with the police by giving out useful information against suspected criminals.
