The Philippines appoints Nigerian, Akpakwu as Consul

Emmanuel Akpakwu, a Nigerian, has been appointed the Republic of Philippines’ Consul to the Nigerian Consulate in Lagos.

Akpakwu, a Sports administrator, is also reputable entrepreneur and investor and has had a business relationship with the Republic of the Philippines for over 10 years.

Her Excellency, Shirley HO-Vicario, the Philippines Ambassador to Nigeria, performed the swearing-in ceremony for the new envoy at the Embassy in Abuja yesterday.

HO-Vicario commended Akpakwu for his commitment in strengthening the ties between her country and Nigeria over the years.

According to her, “After this ceremony, when next you visit the Philippines, you shall no longer come as a visitor but as a Consul to the Republic of the Philippines in Lagos Nigeria.”

She noted that the Philippine was fast becoming the new hub for Asia/Africa Market, while stressing that the new appointment would further strengthen the bilateral relationship between her country and Nigeria in areas of Agriculture, Technology, commerce and industries.

The Ambassador added, “This role came in handy as the need to further explore commercial activities between Nigeria and The Philippines increased in the last decade.”

Meanwhile, Akpakwu in his acceptance speech, promised to galvanize his age-long relationship with the people of Philippines to good use.

He also promised to protect the relationship between the Filipinos and Nigerians in terms of human right, agriculture, trade and investment.
