Zamfara Commissioner Escapes Death As Bandits Attack His Convoy, Kill Driver

Zamfara State Commissioner of Security and Home Affairs, Hon. Abubakar Dauran, escaped death on Monday by a whisker.

The commissioner had a close shave with death after bandits operating within Katsina and Zamfara States attacked his convoy, killing his driver instantly.

The attack, which also left many people injured, Ekohotblog learnt, occurred when the commissioner was coming from Katsina State where he had gone to hand over the 26 kidnapped minors rescued by Zamfara State Government to the Katsina State Government.

When contacted, the state police command confirmed the incident, saying that the armed bandits did not confront the commissioner and his convoy directly.

In a statement signed and made available to newsmen in Gusau, the state capital, the police spokesman, SP Mohammed Shehu, said the convoy was caught in a crossfire by two bandits groups.

“The government delegation led the commissioner of Security and Home Affairs, Hon. Abubakar Dauran was caught in a crossfire between two warring bandits groups at Dogon Karfi, GidanJaji, along Zurmi – Jibiya road, in Zurmi Local Government area of Zamfara State,” the statement said.

Shehu appealed to the general public to always assist the security agencies with useful information that could lead to the arrest of bandits.
