Uyo – A 40-year-old man, Joshua Kalu Chukwu, has been sentenced to seven years in prison by the Akwa Ibom State High Court, sitting in Uyo over rape of a 12-year-old girl.
Presided over by Justice Okon Okon, the court found the accused guilty of sexually exploiting the girl, punishable under the Child Rights Law of Akwa Ibom State.
Chukwu who was sentenced without option of fine, was reported to have bought oranges worth N130 from Goodness, but refused to pay the minor, and instead requested she accompany him to his house at 10 Etuk Street, Uyo to get the money.
“As innocent as Goodness was, she followed Chukwu with a bucket of oranges on her head, inside his one room apartment, where he grapped the minor, removed her pants and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
“The girl’s plea for Chukwu to let her go even after the sex from 8 pm to midnight, proved abortive, as he taunted that nobody will come to her rescue, even if she cried on top of her voice, except she spent the whole night with him.
