Senator Amosun mourns passage of renowned talking drummer and foremost cultural icon, Adewole Onilu-Ola

The Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, CON, FCA has commiserated with the Adewole family and indeed the people of egbaland on the passage of the legendary talking drummer, Alhaji Abdul Rahmon Alao Adewole, popularly known as Adewole Onilu-Ola, who died on Tuesday, 29th December, 2020 at the age of 97 years.

Senator Amosun in a condolence letter addressed to the family of Alhaji Abdul Rahmon Adewole, described his death as an exit of a great entertainer, a renowned talking drummer and a foremost cultural icon.

“As the lead drummer of the famous Ayinla Omowura Band, Baba Adewole Onilu-Ola blazed the trail for several decades, and continued till he breathed his last.

“His mastery of the art of drumming carved a niche for him in the 60s and 70s, most especially among enthusiasts of Apala brand of music.

According to Senator Amosun, “despite his old age, Baba Adewole featured and exhibited his drumming prowess to the admiration of people in all the editions of the annual Africa Drums Festival put together during our administration as Governor of Ogun State.

He described Baba Adewole Onilu-Ola as a great drummer whose sojourn had further established that drumming is not just a means of entertainment, but a veritable platform for effective communication.

The Senator prayed that Almighty Allah (SWT) will grant Baba Adewole Aljannah Firdaus and give his children, grand children and the entire family, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
